  • If you are looking to obtain a copy of a birth or death certificate with expedited service, please note that the New Castle Office of Vital Statistics closed its Mercer Street location on December 31, 2017.  The office’s new location will remain in Lawrence County, but will focus primarily on processing online and mail-in orders, and in conducting extensive manual searches of vital records, and will not offer same-day service.  As public services will no longer be available in New Castle, customers located in the western part of the state are encouraged to apply in person at the Erie or Pittsburgh public offices.  Please feel free to call our office for the locations, phone numbers, and hours of these offices.
  • Pursuant to an act of the Pennsylvania Legislature, effective Monday, November 20, 2017, the JCS fee (imposed by the PA Supreme Court on all Petitions for Letters, and on all first filings for Adoptions, Small Estates, Trusts, Guardianships, and Minors' Estates) was increased from $35.50 to $40.25, in the Office of the Register of Wills and Clerk of Orphans' Court.

PLEASE NOTE:  Both Marriage LIcense applicants are still required to appear before a clerk in our office with the required documentation, identification, and fee.  If the proper documentation is not provided, the application will not be processed.  Additionally, the three-day waiting period does not begin until you have appeared before a clerk in our office and the application has been signed.
