Introduction

The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department operates year-round, bringing the residents of Butler County quality, affordable recreational opportunities. The Parks and Recreation Department regularly submits press releases to all of the local media. Our programs are advertised on the radio and in the print medias. Many of the programs that are offered by the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department have minimum and maximum participant requirements, and registration deadlines. If you are interested in attending a program or class, be sure to register early.

 

The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department has a no-refund policy for all programs and rentals. This also applies to Alameda Waterpark admissions and aquatic programs. The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department may be offering additional programs that were not available at the time of printing. Please call the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department for programs that have been added after this website was updated.

 

By registering or participating in any Butler County Parks and Recreation Department activities you agree to allow publication of any photo or video taken at any program, event or facility. The County of Butler, without obligation to provide compensation to those photographed, may use such photographs. Photos and video taken at activities may be used for publication as the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department and its sponsors deem necessary. If you have an idea for a program, would like us to expand on our current programs, or have any questions or comments, please let us know.

Butler County Parks and Recreation Policies

  1. Alameda Pool and The Kid's Zone Playground areas are tobacco-free areas. No tobacco products may be used within 20 feet of entrances. This also includes the use of E-cigarettes. 

  2. The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department has a no-refund policy in effect for all programs and for Alameda Pool.

  3. Most Classes are limited in size. Registration will be on a first come-first serve basis.

  4. Payment is expected at the time of registration. Cash, money orders, or personal checks. Please make checks payable to "County of Butler".

  5. Please check the programs for which you are registered. No confirmation notices will be sent.

  6. The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of handicap status in the provision of programs.

  7. The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel programs due to insufficient registration. Unless notified, classes will begin as scheduled.

  8. The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department welcomes people of all abilities. Please note that a 48-hour notice is requested for any person with a disability who needs special accommodations to participate in a program.

  9. Alameda Pool may be closed for reasons of poor weather or attendance, safety factors, or special events. Please see our pool rules and regulations for a complete listing of policies and guidelines.

Rabies and Micro Chipping Clinic

Butler County Humane Society joins Butler County Parks and Recreation to offer a rabies shots for our loved pets.

$10.00 per pet and Micro Chipping available for $15.00 per pet. Micro Chipping may not always be available, rain checks will be provided at this price if it is not available at the time of the clinic.

Park Shelters Reservations

February 24, 2017  First available day to rent for 2017.

Are you looking for a natural setting to have a wedding, family picnic, birthday party, BBQ, family reunion, or company picnic? We have the ideal setting for you. Fourteen shelters spread out over 418 wooded acres, sprinkled with modern playgrounds, a large outdoor family-friendly pool, two sand volleyball courts, and much more are available in Alameda Park.


The first day of shelter reservations is always the last Friday in February, and reservations are taken in the County Government Center, in the Public meeting room.  The doors will open at 7:30am, and reservations will be taken at 8:30am. Reservations will be taken at the Government Center until 11:00 am. then will resume at the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department at 1:00pm. The consumption of alcohol within Alameda Park is prohibited without a permit. All permit applications may be obtained at the Buter County Parks and Receation Department. ALL SECURITY DEPOSIT CHECKS SHOULD BE MADE PAYABLE TO THE COUNTY OF BUTLER AND THIS SHOULD BE A SEPERATE CHECK.* 

* In order to have your security deposit refunded, all garbage must be placed in the trash cans provided and if you move the tables, they must be put back the way they were when you arrived at the shelter.

 

**Water and electric service are not guaranteed.

**The consumption of alcohol within Alameda Park is prohibited without a permit.

**All Alcohol permit applications may be obtained at the Butler County Parks and Recreation  Department.

(Alcohol permits are $30 at the time of the initial Shelter Rental and $40 thereafter).

Alcohol Permits will not be issued for the Rotary Shelter. Alcohol permits will be issued during normal office hours only.

Painting in the Park 

Join Butler County Parks & Recreation as we bring back a fan favorite of Painting in the Park! Don't know how to paint? Don't worry about that, our instructor Sandra will be with you every step of the way as we break it down to make a masterpiece something anyone can paint. Ages 12 years of age or older permitted. Must have 8 painters registered for this class to run. Please contact the Park Department for more information. 724-284-5383. Painting is located at the Park Department unless otherwise noted.

Safe Sitter Babysitting Courses for 2017

Interested in Babysitting but need to learn more about safety and emergencies? This class is designed for ages 11-16. The class emphasis is on five main areas: prevention, safety, responsibility, leadership, and professionalism.
Class locations are in Adams Township, Butler Township, Karns City Borough, and Slippery Rock Park Borough.
Pre-registration is required due to class size limits.

The cost is $49.00 per participant and includes book, safe sitter back pack, band aid holder, notepad and flashlight! Class size is limited so please register early.

Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt

Friday April 7th

Masonic Shelter, Alameda Park

Join us for our Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt on Friday, April 7th. The night will involve Butler County Parks and Recreation as we will have craft, food for children and a meeting with the Easter Bunny and collecting easter eggs

Pre-registration is required. The cost is $5.00 per child for pre-registration up through March 24th after March 24th the registration will be $7.00. Save when you register early! 

 

 

 

Special Population and Children under 12 Fishing Area 

 Tuesday April 25th through Saturday May 6th

Chicora Borough Park

The area of Buffalo Creek that runs through the Chicora Borough Park will be designated for use by Special Populations and children age 12 and under for a period of two weeks. The dates are from Tuesday April 25th through Saturday May 6th.

This “Children under 12 and Special Population only area” is designed to promote fishing for youth and disabled populations. This area is specifically restricted to those children age 12 and under, and for special needs populations. No other fishing will be permitted. The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department will restock the creek with trout before the beginning of the Youth and Special Population dates take effect. The effort to provide this designated fishing area is a joint effort by the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department, Chicora Borough Council, and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.
