The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department operates year-round, bringing the residents of Butler County quality, affordable recreational opportunities. The Parks and Recreation Department regularly submits press releases to all of the local media. Our programs are advertised on the radio and in the print medias. Many of the programs that are offered by the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department have minimum and maximum participant requirements, and registration deadlines. If you are interested in attending a program or class, be sure to register early.


The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department has a no-refund policy for all programs and rentals. This also applies to Alameda Waterpark admissions and aquatic programs. The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department may be offering additional programs that were not available at the time of printing. Please call the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department for programs that have been added after this website was updated.


By registering or participating in any Butler County Parks and Recreation Department activities you agree to allow publication of any photo or video taken at any program, event or facility. The County of Butler, without obligation to provide compensation to those photographed, may use such photographs. Photos and video taken at activities may be used for publication as the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department and its sponsors deem necessary. If you have an idea for a program, would like us to expand on our current programs, or have any questions or comments, please let us know.

Butler County Parks and Recreation Policies

  1. Alameda Waterpark and The Kid's Zone Playground areas are tobacco-free areas. No tobacco products may be used within 20 feet of entrances. This also includes the use of E-cigarettes. 

  2. The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department has a no-refund policy in effect for all programs and for Alameda Pool.

  3. Most Classes are limited in size. Registration will be on a first come-first serve basis.

  4. Payment is expected at the time of registration. Cash, money orders, or personal checks. Please make checks payable to "County of Butler".

  5. Please check the programs for which you are registered. No confirmation notices will be sent.

  6. The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of handicap status in the provision of programs.

  7. The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel programs due to insufficient registration. Unless notified, classes will begin as scheduled.

  8. The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department welcomes people of all abilities. Please note that a 48-hour notice is requested for any person with a disability who needs special accommodations to participate in a program.

  9. Alameda Waterpark may be closed for reasons of poor weather or attendance, safety factors, or special events. Please see our Waterpark rules and regulations for a complete listing of policies and guidelines.

Our Mission

The mission of the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department is to provide safe, clean, and beautiful facilities, parks and open spaces, along with professionally managed leisure activities for all people. Services shall be provided to enrich the quality of life for local citizens and to provide economic value through facilities which create tourism and encourage long-term community stability and growth.

Safe Sitter Babysitting Courses for 2018

Interested in Babysitting but need to learn more about safety and emergencies? This class is designed for ages 11-16. The class emphasis is on five main areas: prevention, safety, responsibility, leadership, and professionalism.
Class locations are in Adams Township, Butler Township, Karns City Borough, and Slippery Rock Park Borough.
Pre-registration is required due to class size limits.

The cost is $49.00 per participant and includes book, safe sitter back pack, band aid holder, notepad and flashlight! Class size is limited so please register early.

Painting in the Park 

Join Butler County Parks & Recreation as we bring back a fan favorite of Painting in the Park! Don't know how to paint? Don't worry about that, our instructor Sandra will be with you every step of the way as we break it down to make a masterpiece something anyone can paint. Ages 12 years of age or older permitted. Must have 8 painters registered for this class to run. Please contact the Park Department for more information. 724-284-5383. Painting is located at the Park Department unless otherwise noted. 

$30.00 per canvas, minimum of 8 participants for a class.

Monster Mile Family Walk at Alameda Park

Saturday, October 20th 

11:00am-1:00pm starting at the Masonic Shelter

Halloween at Alameda Park invites you and your family dress in their favorite cosutme and walk through our Alameda Park. Starting at the Masonic Shelter and walking back towards the Odd Fellow Loop. We will have 4 different stations to stop at for your child to receive a pumpkin, craft, face painting, time on the inflateable and some candy stops on the way.Wagons and strollers are encouraged. 

There is a pre-registration fee is only $5.00 per child ages 2-10 years old until October 5th. After October 5th the fee goes up to $7.00 per child ages 2-10 years old. Children under 1 year of age still need to be registered. 

Save by registering early! Pre-registration is preferred.



Flashlight Scavenger Candy Cane Hunt

Saturday, November 17th

6:30pm at the Carousel Shelter

Join us for what is sure to be a fun evening. We are having our Annual Light Up Night at Alameda Park, and we want you to join us! We are also going to be looking for all the candy canes that have been rumored to be hidden around the Carousel Shelter!

Bring your flashlight as clues will be read aloud to help you know the location of the treats. Each treat location will be lighted with unique displays that rhyme with the clue read aloud! 

Pre-registration is preferred. The cost is $7.00 per child for pre-registration up through November 2nd. Registration after November 2nd will be $9.00. Save when you register early! The fun starts at 6:30pm at the Carousel Shelter.



Breakfast with Santa

Saturday, December 1st

Events starts at 10:30am until approx. 12:00pm

The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department has teamed up with Butler Township to bring you a special surprise. We have managed to talk Santa into joining us for what is sure to be a fun-filled breakfast! 

Children will get the opportunity to write a letter (to ensure he receives it), make reindeer food, have breakfast, a craft and time to sit with Santa! 

The Breakfast with Santa program is designed for children ages toddler thru 10. The cost is $7.00 per child (under 1 are free, but must be registered) through Wednesday, November 21st. Late registration will be $9.00 per child after November 21st. Register early and save!

Breakfast takes place at the Butler Township Park Building, 468 South Duffy Road, from 10:30 a.m. until approx. 12:00pm.

Pre-Registration is required.




Free Fishing Rod Loaner Program       

All Year Long

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department are offering free loans of fishing rods and reels. The borrower will be responsible for cost of the rod and other equipment should they not be returned or taken care of properly. In addition, those borrowing the equipment must agree to safe, ethical conduct while fishing, as well as obeying PA Fish Commission laws and regulations.
