The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department operates year-round, bringing the residents of Butler County quality, affordable recreational opportunities. The Parks and Recreation Department regularly submits press releases to all of the local media. Our programs are advertised on the radio and in the print medias. Many of the programs that are offered by the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department have minimum and maximum participant requirements, and registration deadlines. If you are interested in attending a program or class, be sure to register early.


The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department has a no-refund policy for all programs and rentals. This also applies to Alameda Waterpark admissions and aquatic programs. The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department may be offering additional programs that were not available at the time of printing. Please call the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department for programs that have been added after this website was updated.


By registering or participating in any Butler County Parks and Recreation Department activities you agree to allow publication of any photo or video taken at any program, event or facility. The County of Butler, without obligation to provide compensation to those photographed, may use such photographs. Photos and video taken at activities may be used for publication as the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department and its sponsors deem necessary. Butler County Parks and Recreation Policies

  1. Alameda Pool and The Kid's Zone Playground areas are tobacco-free areas. No tobacco products may be used within 20 feet of entrances. This also includes the use of E-cigarettes. 

  2. The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department has a no-refund policy in effect for all programs and for Alameda Pool.

  3. Most Classes are limited in size. Registration will be on a first come-first serve basis.

  4. Payment is expected at the time of registration. Cash, money orders, or personal checks. Please make checks payable to "County of Butler".

  5. Please check the programs for which you are registered. No confirmation notices will be sent.

  6. The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of handicap status in the provision of programs.

  7. The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel programs due to insufficient registration. Unless notified, classes will begin as scheduled.

Painting in the Park 

Join Butler County Parks & Recreation as we bring back a fan favorite of Painting in the Park! Don't know how to paint? Don't worry about that, our instructor Sandra will be with you every step of the way as we break it down to make a masterpiece something anyone can paint. Ages 12 years of age or older permitted. Must have 8 painters registered for this class to run. Please contact the Park Department for more information. 724-284-5383. Painting is located at the Park Department unless otherwise noted.

Safe Sitter Babysitting Courses for 2017

Interested in Babysitting but need to learn more about safety and emergencies? This class is designed for ages 11-16. The class emphasis is on five main areas: prevention, safety, responsibility, leadership, and professionalism.
Class locations are in Adams Township, Butler Township, Karns City Borough, and Slippery Rock Park Borough.
Pre-registration is required due to class size limits.

The cost is $49.00 per participant and includes book, safe sitter back pack, band aid holder, notepad and flashlight! Class size is limited so please register early.

Camp Alameda

Camp Alameda program begins at 9:00am and runs until 4:30pm Monday through Friday. We offer an early drop-off at 7:00am and a late pickup until 5:30pm at no extra charge!Education, Nature, Safety, and Fun are the guidelines for this activity based day camp. Camp Alameda is filled with games, activities, arts and crafts, swimming every day, and lots more! Each week has activities, crafts, games and guests geared around a weekly theme.

(You must note on your registration form if you will be taking advantage of our early drop-off or late pickup)

Camp sessions are one week in length and campers are divided into age appropriate activities throughout the day. Don't worry about missing swim lessons, swim team practice or attending one of our many special events. If requested, our counselors will make sure that your child gets to any of these programs in Alameda Park, and back to camp! All campers must be potty trained and at least 5 years of age. Those campers 5 years of age are preferred to have already successfully completed a pre-school program or other day care to be able to understand the schedule of a day camp. Campers should bring a sack lunch with them. Campers should also pack a bathing suit and towel everyday. Snacks and beverages will be provided throughout the day.


The cost for Camp Alameda is $125 per child per week

($100 for each additional sibling registered for the same week)

We also have a special 10-week discount for only $1,000!


Let your kids have fun this summer, register today for Camp Alameda. If your child is age 12 or older, ask about our C.I.T. (counselor in training) program.



Special Population and Children under 12 Fishing Area 

 Tuesday April 25th through Saturday May 6th

Chicora Borough Park

The area of Buffalo Creek that runs through the Chicora Borough Park will be designated for use by Special Populations and children age 12 and under for a period of two weeks. The dates are from Tuesday April 25th through Saturday May 6th.

This “Children under 12 and Special Population only area” is designed to promote fishing for youth and disabled populations. This area is specifically restricted to those children age 12 and under, and for special needs populations. No other fishing will be permitted. The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department will restock the creek with trout before the beginning of the Youth and Special Population dates take effect. The effort to provide this designated fishing area is a joint effort by the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department, Chicora Borough Council, and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. Would you like to have a garage sale, but just don’t have the time or energy? Sell your treasures at Alameda Park out of the trunk of your car!

The fee is only $5.00 per space, or $8.00 for two spaces.

Admission for shoppers is FREE!

After the Register early date, up to the date of the event. The price per space will be $7.00 for one space or $10.00 for two. 

 The Trunk Sale will go on…Rain/Shine/Snow/Cold!


Alameda Waterpark Opening Day

Night Disc Golf 

Saturday June 24th at 9:30pm

Saturday July 15th at 9:30pm

Saturday September 30th at 9:30pm

Join us in the park after hours for a disc golf competition. Registration will be at 9:00pm and the event will start at 9:30pm. Chris Lachendro from the the Professional Disc Golf Association will be helping to run these events at Alameda Park and we are so pleased to have him. This will be a Night Round on a temp course. The temp course will be setup next to the Purple park. Check-in from 8:45pm-9:15pm,we will have a short players meeting and then tee off at 9:30pm. This event is open to all skill levels and all money will be collected at the event.
There are two options to pay for: 
25$ 2x Niteize night disc golf discs (1 putter and 1 driver)
10$ Bring your own discs. (This is a night round make sure they light up or glow)

There will be a few divisions. With Prizes for top finishers.

Alameda Story Time Adventures

Thursdays June 15th-August 10th

Join us for some fun Storytelling as we read a selection of Children's stories every Thursday, 11:30am-12:00pm at the Rotary Shelter from June 15 through August 10. This is sure to be a fun and imaginative activity for all! No registration required, and Alameda Story Adventures is entirely FREE!

The SweetWater Summer Series a Mountain Bike Race reminiscent of World Cup Style racing.  Short loops, multiple laps on some of the finest trails around the Pittsburgh Area.  If you are planning on attending all 4 races this year you can buy a season pass at a discounted rate.  This will cover your entry fees for all of the races and all you'll have to do is sign the waiver at each race.  You will also be given a number plate at the first race that you will use for the remainder of the series.  Lost or forgotten number plates will result in a $5.00 processing fee to be paid at registration. Individual race registration and more information can be found on bikereg under the race venue name on the dates listed below.....
