Rabies and Micro Chipping Clinic

Butler County Humane Society joins Butler County Parks and Recreation to offer a rabies shots for our loved pets.

$10.00 per pet and Micro Chipping available for $15.00 per pet. Micro Chipping may not always be available, rain checks will be provided at this price if it is not available at the time of the clinic.

Painting in the Park 

Join Butler County Parks & Recreation as we bring back a fan favorite of Painting in the Park! Don't know how to paint? Don't worry about that, our instructor Sandra will be with you every step of the way as we break it down to make a masterpiece something anyone can paint. Ages 12 years of age or older permitted. Must have 8 painters registered for this class to run. Please contact the Park Department for more information. 724-284-5383. Safe Sitter Babysitting Courses for 2017

Interested in Babysitting but need to learn more about safety and emergencies? This class is designed for ages 11-16. The class emphasis is on five main areas: prevention, safety, responsibility, leadership, and professionalism.
Class locations are in Adams Township, Butler Township, Karns City Borough, and Slippery Rock Park Borough.
Pre-registration is required due to class size limits.

The cost is $49.00 per participant and includes book, safe sitter back pack, band aid holder, notepad and flashlight! Class size is limited so please register early.

Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt

Friday April 7th

Join us for our Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt on Friday, April 7th. The night will involve Butler County Parks and Recreation as we will have craft, food for children and a meeting with the Easter Bunny and collecting easter eggs

Pre-registration is required. The cost is $5.00 per child for pre-registration up through March 24th after March 24th the registration will be $7.00. Save when you register early! 

 

 

Special Population and Children under 12 Fishing Area 

 Tuesday April 25th through Saturday May 6th

Chicora Borough Park

The area of Buffalo Creek that runs through the Chicora Borough Park will be designated for use by Special Populations and children age 12 and under for a period of two weeks. The dates are from Tuesday April 25th through Saturday May 6th.

This “Children under 12 and Special Population only area” is designed to promote fishing for youth and disabled populations. This area is specifically restricted to those children age 12 and under, and for special needs populations. No other fishing will be permitted. The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department will restock the creek with trout before the beginning of the Youth and Special Population dates take effect. The effort to provide this designated fishing area is a joint effort by the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department, Chicora Borough Council, and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. Earth Volunteer Day! 

Saturday April 22nd 

Join us at Alameda Park in a celebration for Earth Day! We will getting our hands dirty with planting new flowers and plants around our most famous shelter, the Carousel Shelter. Call us to help us out in making Alameda Park continuing to look great and what better way to honor our earth! Must register with the Park Department for volunteer times. Ask for Ashley.

Would you like to have a garage sale, but just don’t have the time or energy? Sell your treasures at Alameda Park out of the trunk of your car!

The fee is only $5.00 per space, or $8.00 for two spaces.

Admission for shoppers is FREE!

After the Register early date, up to the date of the event. The price per space will be $7.00 for one space or $10.00 for two.

Night Disc Golf 

Saturday June 24th at 9:30pm

Saturday July 15th at 9:30pm

Join us in the park after hours for a disc golf competition. Registration will be at 9:00pm and the event will start at 9:30pm. Chris Lachendro from the the Professional Disc Golf Association will be helping to run these events at Alameda Park and we are so pleased to have him. This will be a Night Round on a temp course. The temp course will be setup next to the Purple park. Check-in from 8:45pm-9:15pm,we will have a short players meeting and then tee off at 9:30pm. This event is open to all skill levels and all money will be collected at the event.
There are two options to pay for: 
25$ 2x Niteize night disc golf discs (1 putter and 1 driver)
10$ Bring your own discs. (This is a night round make sure they light up or glow)

The SweetWater Summer Series a Mountain Bike Race reminiscent of World Cup Style racing.  Short loops, multiple laps on some of the finest trails around the Pittsburgh Area.  If you are planning on attending all 4 races this year you can buy a season pass at a discounted rate.  This will cover your entry fees for all of the races and all you'll have to do is sign the waiver at each race.  You will also be given a number plate at the first race that you will use for the remainder of the series.  Lost or forgotten number plates will result in a $5.00 processing fee to be paid at registration. Individual race registration and more information can be found on bikereg under the race venue name on the dates listed below.....

Hunter Safety Course

Monday August 14th & Tuesday August 15th

This is a 2-day training class for individuals who are required to complete the mandatory Hunter-Trapper Education training program before purchasing their first hunting or fur-taking license.

NOTE: YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 11 YEARS OLD TO REGISTER FOR THIS CLASS!

Registration is taken on-line only at the PA Game Commission website at www.pgc.state.pa.us. Space is limited so register early. Participants must attend both evenings to receive their certification.

All classes will be held at the Butler Township Park Building from 5:00pm – 9:00pm located at 468 South Duffy Rd Butler PA 16001.

20th Annual Bocce Tournament

Saturday, September 9th

This annual tournament is sponsored by the Butler County Bocce Association and the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department and features Bocce teams from all over Butler County competing in a double elimination tournament to crown the Best of Butler. Butler County Parks and Recreation teamed up with Butler County Humane Society to help donate back to our furry friends, 50% of the proceeds will go to Butler County Humane Society. Butler County Humane Society will be judging our longest jump contest. 

The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department is offering this very special program to all dog lovers. We are opening the pool for a canine only swim!

Lifeguards will be on duty, the play stations will be on, and our four-legged friends can enjoy a leisurely dip in Alameda Waterpark. Please note the slides and diving boards are off limits. 

Please remember to bring a copy of your pet’s license and a copy of their current vaccination records in order to gain entry to the waterpark.

 

 

Fall Garden Series

Penn State Master Gardeners of Butler County 

Tuesday evenings from 6:30pm to 8:00pm

September 19, 2017 through October 10, 2017

 

Join us Tuesday evenings from 6:30pm to 8:00pm from September 19, 2017 through October 10, 2017 for a 4-week series of gardening classes taught by Penn State Master Gardeners of Butler County. Come to as many classes as your schedule allows! We will cover a variety of gardening topics, and each participant who preregisters will take home a free gardening gift.

 

 Classes will be held at the Holly Shelter at Alameda Park, Butler, from 6:30pm - 8:00pm. 

Cost for the class is $20 per class or $70 for all four.

Shrubs in the Landscape, instructor: Mary Kruger, Master Gardener

Shrubs can be low-maintenance, high-impact plants that easily provide year-round interest in the garden.  Learn which shrubs to grow in your landscape, whether planting for color, structure, or problem solving.  

 

Class 2: September 26

Houseplants and their care, instructor: Dennis Culley, Master Gardener

Houseplants are becoming increasingly popular among gardeners, but have different requirements than outside gardens. Learn how to grow healthy plants indoors, as well as which pests to watch for and how to eliminate them if they appear.

 

Class 3: October 3

Terrariums, instructor: Susan Struthers, Master Gardener

Learn the basics of creating and caring for different types of terrariums. Get tips on creating a miniature landscape that can be enjoyed indoors. Participants will leave with a terrarium they create during this hands-on class.

 

Class 4: October 10

Holiday and Gift Plants, instructor: Thom Stewart, Master Gardener

Ever wonder how to care for those plants we buy or receive around the holidays? Students in this class will learn how to care for their plants frequently received as gifts, to keep them blooming and growing throughout the holiday season and beyond.

 

 

 

Monster Mile Family Walk at Alameda Park

Saturday, October 21st 

11:00am-1:00pm starting at the Masonic Shelter

Halloween at Alameda Park invites you and your family dress in their favorite cosutme and walk through our Alameda Park. Starting at the Masonic Shelter and walking back towards the Odd Fellow Loop. We will have 4 different stations to stop at for your child to receive a pumpkin, craft, face painting, time on the inflateable and some candy stops on the way. Wagons and strollers are encouraged. 

There is a pre-registration fee is only $2.00 per child ages 3-10 years old until October 6th. After October 6th the fee goes up to $3.00 per child ages 3-10 years old. Children 2 and under still need to be registered. 

Save by registering early! Pre-registration is preferred.

 

 

Flashlight Scavenger Candy Cane Hunt

Saturday, November 18th 

6:00pm at the Carousel Shelter

Join us for what is sure to be a fun evening. We are having our Annual Light Up Night at Alameda Park, and we want you to join us! We are also going to be looking for all the candy canes that have been rumored to be hidden around the Carousel Shelter!

Bring your flashlight as clues will be read aloud to help you know the location of the treats. Each treat location will be lighted with unique displays that rhyme with the clue read aloud! 

Pre-registration is required. The cost is $7.00 per child for pre-registration up through November 3rd. Registration after November 3rd will be $9.00. Save when you register early! The fun starts at 6:00pm at the Carousel Shelter.

 

 

Breakfast with Santa

Saturday, December 2nd

Events starts at 10:30am until approx. 12:00pm

The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department has teamed up with Butler Township to bring you a special surprise. We have managed to talk Santa into joining us for what is sure to be a fun-filled breakfast! Children will get the opportunity to write a letter (to ensure he receives it), make reindeer food, have breakfast, a craft and time to sit with Santa! 

The Breakfast with Santa program is designed for children ages toddler thru 10. The cost is $7.00 per child (under 1 are free, but must be registered) through Wednesday, November 22nd. Late registration will be $9.00 per child after November 22nd. Register early and save!

 

Breakfast takes place at the Butler Township Park Building, 468 South Duffy Road, from 10:30 a.m. until approx. 12:00pm.

Free Fishing Rod Loaner Program       

All Year Long

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department are offering free loans of fishing rods and reels. The borrower will be responsible for cost of the rod and other equipment should they not be returned or taken care of properly. In addition, those borrowing the equipment must agree to safe, ethical conduct while fishing, as well as obeying PA Fish Commission laws and regulations.
