Basic Handgun Safety Course


The Butler County Sheriff’s Office offers a bi-annual Basic Handgun Safety Course. We are very excited to be able to offer this type of program for our County residents.  The course is 2-evenings at the Butler City Hunting and Fishing Club in East Butler, PA which is held once in the spring and once in the fall. We limit the number of participants to 30.

Below is the outline for the course.  If you are interested, you can download a registration form and return it to our Office. 


Class Outline


Day 1: Classroom topics will include…

  • Understanding how a Firearm Works
  • Safety and Weapon Care
  • Care and Maintenance
  • Ammunition
  • Transporting a Firearm
  • Firearms Control
  • Weapon Handling


Day 2: Range


Participants will shoot a minimum of 50 rounds, extra range work will be permitted if time allows.  Distances will not exceed 25yds.
