The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department invites you to our FREE Family Summer Concert Series at Alameda Park.  Our concerts will begin at 6:30 pm and will take place in the Odd Fellow Gazebo.

The Greater Cranberry Chapter Bogmeisters Chorus is a part of the Barbershop Harmony Society which is the world’s largest male a cappella singing organization with approximately 26,000 members in the US and Canada plus affiliates in nine other countries. We sing barbershop style music for recreation, performance and in competitions.  The goal of the Bogmeisters Chorus is to preserve the original American artform of barbershop harmony and we work very hard at trying to perfect the wonderful close harmony that is uniquely its own.

We're a family band, which makes things fun. All three of us sing lead and we have strong three part harmony. Michelle plays bass, Tony plays guitar, and the Vince plays drums! The two young ones have been playing professionally for 5 years, the old guy has been playing for 35 years. We play classic rock, mostly 60's and 70's. Check out our extensive song list. There is a picture of our list in our photo album.(Titled "Song List") There are also some videos and audio recordings so that you can see and hear us in action.

We are a volunteer organization dedicated to preserving the traditions of the classic Amercian marching band and its music. Our band has celebrated many Pennsylvania State Championships and is always working to uphold the excellence and repeat in years to come. We also have had the honor of performing numerous times at Heinz Field as guests of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Kittanning Community Band is a volunteer concert band directed by Mr. Jason Venesky. The band, formed in 2016 with over sixty playing members, has a diverse and entertaining repertoire from Sousa marches to modern pop, movie soundtracks, show tunes and more. The KCB is based at Armstrong High School in Kittanning and welcomes new members ages 15 and up.

The award winning North Star Kids, ranging in age from 8 to 14 years old, have performance selections suitable for all occasions and for groups of any size. History of Butler's Movie Theaters          Thursday, June 15, 2017
 
Join Bill May as he brings back the glory days of Butler's theaters from opera houses to movie theaters including the Comique, Majestic, Capital, Penn and our grand movie palace "The Butler". Rare photos, video clips and stories will make the theater marquees shine once more. The talk will also highlight famous Hollywood stars who claimed Butler as their home town.

Mad Science of Pittsburgh will be joining Butler County Parks and Recreation this summer! This program is a wonderful exploration of the phases of matter, from liquid to gas, solid to liquid and even solid to gas.  Scissors will unexpectedly sizzle and carbon dioxide bubbles willl pop as the chilling properties of dry ice are revealed. The boiling temperatures of various matter is explored. Bubbles and fog abound in this fast-paced program.

Everyone will get the opportunity at the end of the show to touch one of these animals. I will also take random volunteers to come up and participate in the show by touching or holding one or two of these amazing animals. All the kids will get to meet 2-3 live animals and touch at least one of them. I also provide 4 biofacts (see definition below) for the kids to touch and even hold.

"Let There Be Slime!"  Join Naturalist April Claus as she introduces you to things that creep and slither.  This hands-on interactive environmental program introduces you to the reptiles and amphibians of Pennsylvania.  Learn how to identify frogs and toads by their call, examine touchable models and learn how to identify the poisonous snakes that live in our state. Meet and touch some LIVE snakes, toads, turtles, and salamanders that are native to Western Pennsylvania. You will be amazed at the important roles these animals play in our ecosystem.

Nests, webs, burrows – What do they all have in common?  These are all architectural creations of animals.  One of the driving forces behind animal architecture is the use of available materials and their great building skills which aid them in achieving their intended purpose.  We will discuss a variety of architecture from many different animals and observe the materials they use, the purpose of the architecture and its similarity to man’s. We will also be bringing an ant farm to demonstrate animal building skills.

The Biddle Boys - Escape and Death of Butler County’s Most Notorious Outlaws            Thursday, August 17, 2017

Butler County’s most famous outlaw’s--“The Biddle Boys”—comes to life in this exciting program by master storyteller Mr. Bill May. Ed and Jack Biddle had killed a grocer and a police detective in Pittsburgh in 1901 and were sentenced to hang in the Allegheny County Jail. After a daring escape their journey north would eventually bring them through the streets of the City of Butler and a terrifying shootout with police on the road between Mt. Chestnut and Prospect. Don’t miss this incredible true story with rare photos and newly discovered details. Bill May has mesmerized audiences with his “Butler Ghost Walk” held each October in downtown Butler and with his “History of Alameda Park—Butler Disneyland” presented each June as part of Alameda Park’s Outdoor Discovery program.  Join us in the Carousel Shelter at 6:30 p.m.
